PRESIDENT’S REPORT 2015
Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun!! It doesn’t seem like a year ago that I took up the reins (or should I say shackles) of being your President.
Metaphorically (and physically) speaking there has been a lot of water under the bridge since February with some pretty awful worldwide events yet still we carry on with our daily lives as we have to do. This, for most of us at TALTAC, includes our regular or irregular trips to this wonderful lodge that generations of committee members assisted by club members have built, maintained and improved.
This year’s committee members have continued in the same vein and we have planned and carried out a number of improvements as I have listed out in my reports throughout the year. If you can’t remember what they were just have a look at the Newsletters we have published for your edification.
The AGM coming up shortly will be the ideal time for you to thank these people for their participation throughout the year.
Special thanks go to Jim and Helen for their constant laundering of tea towels which, if they weren’t washed, would most likely be used week in week out and become pretty unhygienic.
Our Honorary Accountant and Reviewer John Billing and Michael Cheyne who do a great job each year checking and approving our financials and we appreciate the time they put in especially at the beginning of each calendar year when our accounts for the past year are completed.
Of course we must show our appreciation to Mary our Club Manager who does so many things for the Club that most of you don’t know about let alone see. I know you all treat Mary with the respect she deserves and I appreciate that.
I won’t mention everyone who has given up time to assist around the Club as most of you know who they are and most importantly they do. Also I might offend someone by missing them off the list!!
Just a quick point in conclusion. There seems to be a misunderstanding regarding the notice that is required to be given for the holding of the AGM and presentation of the financial accounts. When I wrote the Constitution back in the 1980s I included clause 14(b) which required written notice to members of the AGM to be sent not less than 10 days prior to the date fixed for the meeting. Following an enquiry from a member recently I checked with Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (who administer Incorporated Societies now) and received an email back stating that there is no set rule and that clubs should abide by their rules. This applies to all Incorporated Societies and hasn’t changed since the Constitution was written.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the AGM in a few weeks.
Ken Haines
Proud President
